Collective Reflection workshops offer improvisation-based dance and theatre exercises led by Rai Barnard to help you find empowerment and new perspectives through movement.
We will explore mindful movement and storytelling practices as a way to process emotion and heal through community. Participants will be guided through meditation, contemporary dance technique, and gesture-based theatre exercises. Together, we will use creative movement skills to better connect with our bodies, emotions, and sense of community.
Workshops are open to all experience levels- whether you have never taken a dance or acting class or work professionally as a performing artist, you are welcome here! Just come with an open mind and willingness to try new things!
Artist Note
In light of ongoing war and genocide in several countries/regions across the world (Ukraine, China, Palestine, Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, Tigray, Sudan), this Collective Reflection workshop will benefit Friends of the Congo. All workshop proceeds will be donated directly to Friends of the Congo, supporting their humanitarian and advocacy efforts for Congolese people affected by ongoing conflict, hazardous mining labor, and environmental emergencies. Alternatively, participants can register for the workshop for free and directly donate to a refugee campaign of their choice.
The workshop will include themes around mental health, community, and collective action. Resource guides will be available with ways to support those currently affected by current political, labor, and environmental issues in the DRC.
As a member of the DFW arts/dance community, I hope this will be an opportunity to invest in our mental health and sense of community so that we can better show up as advocates for those who need our support.
