An Introduction to Christopher Sonny Martinez, our first AMOC Artist in Residence, and his body of work in this COVID safe art exhibit.
AMOC A.I.R. Salon Series
Christopher Sonny Martinez // Homecoming
Christopher Sonny Martinez is a filmmaker and photographer born and raised in Oak Cliff, Texas. Martinez has lived and produced work in Chicago, New York, and Dallas. Martinez’s work breeds intimate moments from a Queer Chicano lens. Christopher Sonny Martinez is Art's Mission Oak Cliff's first 2021 Artist-in-Residence (A.I.R.).
The AMOC A.I.R. Salon Series gives our audience the opportunity to meet each of our artists at the beginning of their residency with us, so you can experience their previous body of work and get to know them through a Q and A.
This timed-ticket exhibit allows patrons to view his prints and film work in both our Sanctuary and Underground spaces. Feel free to explore the spaces, including our outdoor garden bar, and dialogue with Sonny himself.
The 30-minute ticket slots are limited to 10 people. You must wear a face mask and consent to a health declaration prior to entering the building. Thank you for helping us make COVID-safe art a possibility.
“The closeness and trust that is created during sessions is spiritual for me. During this process I often find myself in intimate conversation with my subjects and it sometimes even feels closer than sex. In these moments of intimacy and vulnerability I want to immortalize the experiences of black and brown queers. My hopes are to create space for community, engagement, and collaboration.” – Christopher Sonny Martinez
