Baba Yaga Orkestar is a Dallas-based, Balkan Brass Band that performs music from Eastern Europe. The group collects, arranges, and transcribes popular folk songs from Bulgaria, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Bosnia, and Romani (Gypsy) cultures. Baba Yaga Orkestar creates a unique sound by blending Western jazz elements, instrumentation, and improvisation into Eastern European harmonies, meter, and tonality. To reach new listeners, the band also performs “One-Hit Wonders” with a quirky, polka-like sound. Composed of band directors, elementary music educators, and private lesson music teachers from the greater Dallas area, the Baba Yaga Orkestar strives to uplift, connect, and entertain audiences with their blend of Eastern European and American music.
