Closing out the 2022 AMOC AiR (Artist-in-Residence) season is a new work by dancemaker Rai Barnard.
First, M.I., Last
November 11 & 12 | 7:30pm | $15-30
In a country that claims tenets of individual rights while actively limiting those of marginalized groups, “First, M.I., Last” explores the co-existence of our identities in legal and personal contexts. Take your number in line and get registered to enter our world of dialectics- questions and knowns, things chosen and given, stability and fluidity. Arrive early to explore the behind-the-scenes gallery featuring rehearsal videos, photos, and director’s notes. Join performers Timothy Amirault, Marlee Fleisher, Attiyya Fortune, and Gabriel Scampini on a journey through identity from religion to gender to race and more. Laugh, cheer, and cry with us as we find power in self-identity and community.
This work is supported by the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture.

ABOUT THE MAKERS
Rai Barnard is a queer, non-binary movement artist based in Dallas, TX. They grew up in Plano, where they trained in dance from the age of 5, before earning their B.A. from UT Dallas and starting their professional career. Their performance and choreography background ranges from pop music concerts to theatrical productions to concert dance. Since 2020, Rai has worked with multiple DFW theatre organizations - including Prism Movement Theater, Stage West, and Undermain Theatre. They have appeared in previous AMOC events as a choreographer for the Agora Artists SEEDS 2022 concert and a Kit Kat Klub dancer in Cabaret (2022). As an artist, they strive to create works that are visually intriguing, conceptually compelling, and accessible to diverse audiences. Rai is excited to return to AMOC as an artist-in-residence to present “First, M.I., Last”, a show that exhibits their passion for community, conversation, and collaborative processes in dance.
