Artist-in-Residence Gabriel Scampini seeks to bring to light the realities faced by immigrants today. Moving from bureaucrazy to the deeply emotional, weaving together our internal and external struggles.
Developed through rehearsals as a space for exploration, the piece draws inspiration from stories and anecdotes shared throughout the creative process. “I seek to create a piece that illuminates and represents our community, one where Spanish and English speakers can enjoy equally”, says Scampini. Nudos y Raices tells the story of a mother who left her child behind, a young man who believes in the promise of a better life, and an attorney stuck between two realities.
Join us in this creative weaving, and stay afterward for a post-show conversation with the director, cast, and professional therapist Sol Bautista to reflect on the creative process and the themes of the piece.

About the Artist-in-Residence, Gabriel Scampini:
Gabriel Scampini is a Venezuelan artist now based in Dallas, TX. His artistic journey began at the age of 11 when he started his formation in Salsa Casino and Afro-Cuban rhythms as a dancer. Later, while studying Sociology at Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas, he discovered his passion for theatre. He began his theatre formation with Grupo Fábula, under Julián Izquierdo’s direction, and Teatro Nueva Era under Jennifer Gasperi’s direction.
Gabriel started performing as an actor and dancer for different theatre companies in Caracas. He was the lead for “Great Expectations” and “Peter Pan” (Grupo Fábula), the co-lead for “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” (Ventura Producciones), and part of the cast for “Pechos de Niña” (Teatro Nueva Era). In the meantime, he continued to expand his knowledge of dance and movement, exploring different genres, as well as disciplines like Anthropological and Ritual Theatre.
After relocating to Dallas, TX, he focused on his dance career; training, performing, and competing with groups such as The Neighborhood, Meraki, and Team Athena. He also worked as an associate for ORIZON across Texas. Since 2023, he has hosted open choreography classes and movement laboratories for the community.
Gabriel was part of the cast of “First, M.I., Last”, directed by Rai Barnard in 2022. He served as a production coordinator for Teatro Dallas in 2023-2024 during their 21st International Theatre Festival and the production of “Two Kids in the Universe”, directed by Mac Welch. During 2024, Gabriel was part of the SEEDS Cohort (by Agora Artists) and choreographed his piece called “LATIDO”. Later, he performed in “HAZARDS”, directed by Katie Burks at the AT&T Elevator Project in October 2024.
Most recently, he inaugurated the first edition of the Nuevo Mundo festival by Teatro Dallas, having his directorial debut with a rendition of “Como Agua para Chocolate” in February 2025, and he was the assistant director of “El Otro”, from Octavio Solis, directed by Alyssa Carrasco in May 2025.
Currently, he is part of the Arts Mission Oak Cliff’s 2025 Artist in Residence cohort, where he has created a piece called “Nudos y Raíces” through exploration with the community.
