Throughout her time in residency, Chelita has immersed herself in new techniques—ranging from fabric manipulation and textile dyeing to sculpting and fiber-based installation—to push the boundaries of both fashion and fine art.
WAVES speaks to both the physical flow of fabric and the emotional, creative waves Chelita rides—embracing uncertainty, following curiosity, and allowing intuition to lead the way. Every stitch, pleat, and pigment becomes part of the story.
This showcase is more than a presentation; it’s a living process—an open invitation into the evolving practice of a designer stepping boldly into new artistic terrain.
About the Artist-in-Residence, Chelita McDuffie:
Chelita McDuffie also known by her designer name Chelita Lenice is a multidisciplinary artist, fashion designer, and educator based in Dallas, Texas. With a passion for storytelling through textiles, her work bridges the worlds of wearable art and fine art. Chelita is the founder of That’s Sew Creative! and Sew a Seed Foundation, initiatives dedicated to expanding access to sewing education and creative expression in underserved communities.

Her work draws inspiration from cultural identity, nature’s rhythms, and the fluid creativity.
WAVES marks a new chapter in Chelita’s creative journey, offering an intimate look at her evolution as an artist embracing the unknown to discover new possibilities in both fashion and fiber art.
