Have a dance project idea but not sure how to get funding? Join Agora Artists for a FREE grant writing workshop series, designed for independent dance artists in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Over 4 weekly sessions, we’ll learn how to establish helpful creative habits, develop essential writing skills, and navigate diverse grant opportunities. Join us in the cozy Underground space of Arts Mission Oak Cliff, in-person or virtually!

WEEK 1, June 11: Creative Habits with guest speaker, Dr. Adesola Akinleye

  • Understand the basics of grants and how to stay prepared for funding opportunities.

WEEK 2, June 18: Project Descriptions

  • Develop the story of your project idea through a compelling, informative lens.

WEEK 3, June 25: Guidelines and Timelines with guest speaker, Julia Hosch (Office of Arts & Culture)

  • Following instructions is half the battle- dive deeper into the requirements and deadlines of a grant of your choice (don’t worry, we’ll help you find one!)

WEEK 4, July 2: All the Materials

  • Put your new knowledge to work and begin developing your application materials, with peers and experienced guidance at the ready!

Led by Cami Holman and Rai Barnard, with special guest speakers. Cami Holman (she/they) holds an MFA in Dance from TWU, has presented research at the National Dance Educators Association (NDEO), and has taught cross-curricular dance coursework in public, charter, and university settings. Rai Barnard (they/them) has earned over $20,000 in funding as an emerging choreographer, including support from the Jonelle and Bryce Jordan Fund, Arts Mission Oak Cliff, and the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture. Their experience utilizing public and private grants, fiscal sponsorship, and individual donations has allowed them to develop multiple new works and community dance programs since 2021.
