A message from Present Artist, Dominic Pecikonis:

Hi there! My name is Dominic, and I am a nonbinary transfemme actor and performer.

So much is going on in our country and in the world in regards to trans people and the validity of our existence. I want to do good in our community and take up space the best way I know how: with my artistry.

Over 2 years ago I and other trans actors I know were constantly being told why we couldn't be in certain shows or spaces simply for being trans. I thought to myself "Why does the world seem to make it so hard for trans people to be visible? How can I humanize my community for those who may not usually come in contact with us?" It was after I spent a few months in Concord Massachusetts, where Little Women was written and where the author Louisa May Alcott lived, that I fell deeply in love with her story of sisterhood, love, humility, the challenging of gender norms, and strength even in hardship. I realized this was the gateway to humanizing trans and non-binary people. And so, with the encouragement and help of my co-producer Matty, I drafted a proposal for a non-profit here in Dallas to possibly produce an all trans production of Little Women and benefit a local charity that specializes in helping trans and LGBT people. Surprisingly, my proposal was rejected and when asked for feedback, I was told "Putting trans people in Little Women is like fitting a square peg in a round hole." It made me upset, but motivated me even more. I realized it was up to me and a group of incredible trans artists to carve out space for our community, and use this production to do some good for others. Since then we have secured rights to a lovely adaptation with blessings from the author, and one hundred percent of our ticket sales will be benefiting the nonprofit House of Rebirth. Join us January 22nd-24th at Arts Mission Oak Cliff in helping the community while watching the universal story that is Little Women.
